2nd floor and 3rd floor can be reserved
There is
The bar serves 2 types of Denki Bran, normal and old style. Denki Bran is brandybased cocktail, mixed gin, orange flavor liquor and something. The shot is only 3 dollars. Enjoy!
You can make a reservation.
The second floor is an ordinary restaurant. I have a wide range of meals from infants to the elderly.
Cheap beer and sake. Hang out with the "local salarymen (サラリーマン) as they head home from work. Make sure you try the legendary house fortified wine "DenkiBran" and buy a bottle or two to take home as a gift. It's dirt cheap and the ONLY place in the world you can buy it. You pre-purchase all of your drinks when you enter, find a table, and then hand over your pre-paid drink coupons to a waiter when you want your next beverage. Great system :-) Lively atmosphere but, in classical Tokyo style, the indoor cigarette smoke is something that can get pretty annoying.
The wait staff and customers alike were all super warm and welcoming. The beer was perfect.
Very interesting very old fashion barWell worth to go
Old, traditional bar in Tokyo - something of a rarity really. Great atmosphere in this place, always packed, always lively, and amazingly despite being so close to Sensoji Temple I've never seen any other foreigners whenever I've been. They have their own drink - "denki bran" - although it is quite horrible. Try it if you're feeling in a particularly adventurous mood, otherwise stick to beer.
Nice traditional Izakaya. Friendly people.
Wonderful historic bar. Great drink selection but just cut to the chase and get the Denki Bran. So named (supposedly) because it is so strong, it conducts electricity... (Denki is the Japanese word for electricity) Excellent service, as is everywhere in Japan - the fried oysters were excellent as well.
Good food but very busy
Nice place to check out after walking around the Senso-ji area. The first floor is a bar, and the 2nd a pub. We went for dinner and it was mostly business people drinking after work. Lively atmosphere, but of course nobody was out of line. TL;DR: Grab a cocktail, and some pub food
Known for its original brandy based cocktail called denki-bran, which was introduced well over 100 years ago. Its recipe is kept secret except that they say they mix gin, wine, and some herbs to brandy. The shop has a retro feel of a few decades ago. It does get pretty busy and you will need to find your own spot after ordering food and drinks as you enter. Not a place to relax but worth a visit for a conversation sake.
Traditional Izakaya.
A special food style fusion of Japanese and European, worth to try once.
Beautiful old fashioned place. Moderate prices. Found lot of old, formal dressed up, people eating there. Bar have a nice smoking area. Very kind staff. Fast service.
Great place, your order your food and drink as soon as you get through the door but don't worry there is a glass cabinet with examples of everything on the menu (even the drinks) right next to the till. They don't speak any English but as long as you can point and act politely it will be fine. I personally thought the DenkiBran was foul but it's only 240 yen for a glass so order some and make up your own mind!
Food okay drinks okay found many better japanese eateries
We can drink strong liqueur (denki blanc)since the day time. This isn't a stylish bar, but I like the atmosphere like downtown really. It reminds me of history and culture of this area.「電気ブランã€ã‚’ãŠè©¦ã—ãã ã•ã„ï¼
Retro bar, well priced and good food. The house brandy is worth a try.
Older style diner/pub. You gotta find your seat first and then go and place your order. It’s cash only and you’re likely going to share a table with strangers sitting next to you but that’s part of the ‘charm’ of this place. The back section is smoking and the front doesn’t allow smoking but there are big open areas connecting the two sections. It can get pretty busy around lunch time so be prepared to wait. Food is priced reasonably and once you find a seat and order at the entrance cash, you will get coupons for your food and drinks. Leave the coupons on the table and a waiter will pick them up one by one and bring your food and drinks. All in all it was an interesting experience. Food was just okay, nothing special. The atmosphere is what makes it unique.
One of the oldest bars around with a really family like environnement, sit with someone and talk with them!
Great cocktail bar, close to subway station. You have got to the seat by yourself. And you have to order the drinks at the counter first. After first drink, you can ask waiter to help get additional drink by paying cash. It's crowded place..one of the best cocktail I have had!
Tried the denki bran, not the best I've has but cheap! Lively atmosphere.
One of my favorite places in Tokyo. Come at least one a month. The katsu curry and the German potatoes are great. The prices are cheap for the quality of food.
Must go place in Asakusa to have a drink. Really cheap and awesome quality of alcohol, many liquors are homemade, like the typical DENKI BRAN. Atmosphere is really lively and you can buy bottles of traditional drinks at super convenient price. Possible even to eat there.
great pub with variety of great dishes
Nice place with nice alcohol !
Old-school bar and dining room. Denki-bran, the house hooch, is herbal and on the sweet side. Pairs well with both the fried food options and nikomi. Tap beer is also fresh. On the first floor, you order and pay at the register, then find a seat and hand your drink and food tickets to the server. It can get crowded, so do a quick snoop around to make sure there's room for you or your party, or be prepared to stand/hover for a bit. You may well end up sitting with strangers and shooting the (booze-soaked) breeze.
You really can't go wrong when paying 1080Â¥ for a 1 liter stein. I'm typing this while still there and I'm tipsy. Basically you order and pay in advance, they give you tickets for your order, you find spot to sit and give the ticket to the waiter. Waiter brings order back and you eat and drink. Profit.
Foodsm is good. But too loud to talk on the 1st floor.
A bit of a confusing setup. There is no assigned seating, and most tables are very large. You have to find an empty spot at a large table and ask the people sitting there if it's ok to sit. But you can order the food as soon as you enter the door. Quality of food and drink is excellent and well worth your money.
went there for the famous alcohol 電気ブラン. love the food and atmosphere
Cool bar with their delicious signature drink Denki Bran. This bar has a lot of history and a nice atmosphere to it.
Established in 1880, it is one of the oldest existing pubs in Japan. The building is the historical one built in 1921.The specialty is Denki-buran , Brandy based cocktail.
An interesting experience. We opted for the second floor with long tables you share with other diners and drinkers. Lively environment. Beers are cold and large. Food is tasty and portions are good. Would definitely return for drinks and snacks and socializing with locals.
Classic Japanese style drinking
It's a crowded bar but can give you the great experience. Recommend!!
The history makes this place worth a visit for sure. Denki-bran is worth stopping in just to try a glass, and the atmosphere really is interesting. It's a huge open space with communal tables, very different in style from common izakayas and bars.
Three-floors combo of bar and restaurants, it offers nice snacks, full meals and desserts for a reasonable price, with a good selection of drinks (including almost all brews of Asahi beer).A good spot for either a full meal or a quick snack!
Something different when you are in Tokyo ;).. After you tried all best tempura, yakiniku, sushi, ramen
Food was okay, but you'll find a lot more restaurant that offer a better service and food in the area though.
Good food and reasonable price
Denki bran is recommended.
coming in you are greeted by a lovely display of plastic dishes. you order your dishes in advance at the entrance, plop yourself down and start drinking. the decor has not changed since the fifties, which gives this place an authentic feel you don't get elsewhere.
My favority place
I heard that one needs to visit this place for two reasons. The first is that it is historical from the 1800s. The interior is not very historical however. The second is to try "Denki-bran" (Electric Brandy) which is a concoction of wine, brandy and gin. It was ok. Glad to stop in an worth the 15 minutes it takes.
This place is cult, no doubt!Only the address, Asakusa 1-1-1!This restaurant has been in business since 1880!Famous for his "cocktail" Denki Bran. With ¥ 270 per drink, it is cheaper than a cup of coffee!Yoshoku style dishes is being served here. The food is good but the portions are just too small for what you pay for.The restaurant itself is beautiful.Only a few Western tourists come here and that's pretty amazing because it's right on the Asakusa Temple. But so are tourists, come, take some photos of the temple (because everyone does) and go on.
You have to order the denki bran drink BUT SIP IT or else it strong as moonshine
A wonderfully classic experience, go in and order a denki bran you won't be disappointed
Great drink offers and prices were very reasonable. Wish I would have went here earlier in my stay.
Japanese traditional izakaya denki bran ... that’s tasty
An historical place with a very delicious liquor called "Denki Bran" you must try, especially in its "old" version!
Great food and awesome atmosphere
